McLean Weekend Planner: Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (and More)

Need ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

1. Christmas Concert

  • When/Where: The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lutheran Church of The Redeemer 1545 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean.
  • Why Go: "Christmas Concert featuring voice and bell choirs performances and audience will be invited to sing along to favorite Christmas Carols.  Concert is at 7:30.   Also from 6:30 to 8:30 there will be a Living Nativity on the front lawn with live donkey and sheep to visit.  Free Hot Chocolate and a Bake Sale to beneit SHARE of McLean.  All are welcome."

2. White Christmas at The Kennedy Center

  • When/Where: Performances start at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Kennedy Center. Matinee performances are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Why Go: According to The Kennedy Center's website, "The classic holiday movie White Christmas comes to the stage at last! This brand new musical shines with classic Irving Berlin hits like 'Blue Skies,' 'How Deep is the Ocean?,' and, of course, the unforgettable title song."
  • Pricing: Tickets range in price from $39 to $150.

3. Mr. and Mrs. "Cabot" Claus Come to Balducci's

  • When/Where: The Clauses are dropping by Balducci's in McLean at 11 a.m. Saturday.
  • Why Go: Take your children to meet Santa and get some grocery shopping done, to boot. "The jolly couple will sample 'The World’s Best Cheddar,' hand out children’s presents and pose for pictures with customers."
  • Pricing: Free to attend.

4. Wine Tasting from Italy's Piedmont Region

  • When/Where: The tasting will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Chain Bridge Cellars in McLean.
  • Why Go: "Here's a great chance to taste examples of each of Italy's Piedmont region's best wines - Barbera, Dolcetto, Barolo, and even sparkling sweet Moscato! - as you learn more about one of the region's most historic estates. Importer Maurizio Farro will be on hand to tell the story of Poderi e Cantine Oddero and show off some delicious (and very attractively priced!) current releases.  And you'll love sampling the tingly, sweet, Moscato along with the handcrafted, preservative-free artisinal chocolates from Baily Kasten's Double Premium Confections. A sweet and savory Saturday - join us!"

5. Holiday Open House at Dolley Madison Community Library

  • Why Go: "Enjoy refreshments and seasonal music provided by Jody Marshall on the hammered dulcimer, while young visitors make tree ornaments."
