The McLean Ear: McLean Neighbors at White House State Dinner, Two Neighbors Richest of the Rich

White House Guests. McLean neighbors invited to the lovely White House State Dinner Wednesday night for the British Prime Minister included  Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind, and wife Christine. Terry McAuliffe, former DNC chair, and wife Dorothy. Honorable Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and Mrs. Maureen M. Scalia.

They were among 350 guests that included actor George Clooney, Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue; and the investor Warren Buffett. If we missed a McLean neighbor on that A-List just let us know.

The Richest of the Rich. McLean neighbors Steve Case, An AOL founder,  and William Conway, Co-founder and managing director of The Carlyle Group  remain on the Forbes list of the richest people "on the planet." They were among 1,226 billionaires.

Leading the McLean Chamber. Merritt Green recently started his second year as Chair of the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Chairs usually serve only one year, but Green said the Chamber has important ongoing programs and a revitalization program so they wanted continuity for another year.

Green, who is attorney took office along with his fellow board members at a gala held at the Gannett Building in McLean.

McLean Giant a Good Neighbor. McLean Giant collected $9,135 during the annual Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive.

Giant Food of Landover, Md. presented a check to the Capital Area Food Bank for more than $100,000. The money was raised through Giant’s Good Neighbor Food and Funds Drive, which raises critical funds for regional food banks in order to help community members in need. Successful Neighbors. Wes Bush, of McLean, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Northrop Grumman Corporation,has a new title: director of Norfolk Southern Corporation. They run railroads.
