Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect

National Weather Service: Stay indoors away from windows.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Northern Fairfax County. A tornado warning that was issued expired at 4 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm warning continues until 4:30 p.m. Thursday. 

According to the National Weather Service:

Severe thunderstorms were detected along a line extending from … northwest of Poolesville to South Riding … and were moving east at 50 mph. This line of storms is capable of producing destructive winds in excess of 70 mph.

This is a dangerous line of storms. If you are in its path … move indoors to a sturdy building and stay away from windows.
