Bridge Construction in Median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) Moves West: Spring Hill Road Closures Almost Complete; Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive Closures to Begin Overnights Next Week, with Detours

Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project bridge construction continues in the median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and over major Tysons Corner intersections. The construction over the Spring Hill Road intersection is nearing completion , and when that happens the large, blue-and-yellow truss being used to build these guideways will move west, through the future Tysons West Metrorail Station and over the intersection of Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive.

This requires that the middle of either intersection to closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan.8 through Friday, Jan. 13, depending on when the Spring Hill intersection is complete. The Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive closures are expected to begin as early as Monday, Jan. 9.

When the Spring Hill Road Intersection Is Closed

Thru traffic along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) still will be allowed, but for safety reasons, thru traffic on Spring Hill Road will not be allowed, and will be detoured by using Route 7 as follows:
Southbound Spring Hill Road thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to eastbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to westbound Leesburg Pike, then U-turn at Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive, and continue on eastbound Leesburg Pike toward Spring Hill Road.
Northbound Spring Hill Road thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to westbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to eastbound Leesburg Pike, U-turn at Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road, and continue on westbound Route 7 to access Spring Hill Road.

When the Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive Intersection Is Closed

Again, thru traffic along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) still will be allowed, but thru traffic on Spring Hill Road will not be allowed, and will be detoured by using Route 7 as follows:
Southbound Tyco Road thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to eastbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to westbound Leesburg Pike, then U-turn at Jarrett Valley Drive, and continue on eastbound Leesburg Pike toward Westwood Center Drive. As a courtesy to the neighborhood, avoid turning into Jarrett Valley Drive and using private property as your turnaround.
Northbound Westwood Center Drive thru traffic and motorists wanting to turn left on to westbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to eastbound Leesburg Pike, U-turn at Spring Hill Road, and continue on westbound Route 7 to access Tyco Road.
Drivers should expect approximately 10- to 15- minute travel delays if traveling through this area during these closures, which are expected to last through the end of the year.

Once the Spring Hill closures are complete, crews may be able to resume completion of the bridge over the Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersection. Details will be released as soon as they are available.

In addition, the on-ramp from southbound Route 123 to northbound I-495 also will be closed on those nights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. To access I-495 North, traffic will be detoured to continue on southbound Route 123, right on International Drive, right on Galleria Drive, right on Tysons Boulevard, then left on to northbound Route 123 to the second exit on to northbound I-495.

The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed between Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Galleria Drive Sunday through Friday nights, Jan. 8-13, for overhead bridge, pier and station work near the future Tysons Central 123 station.

This also will require the closures of the turn lanes on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard from northbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), and northbound and southbound Galleria Drive. Generally, these lane closures will begin to be implemented at 9:30 p.m. each night, and will be lifted between 5 a.m. each following morning.
