Barbara Comstock, a McLean Republican who in November narrowly held on to her seat in the state House of Delegates, announced Tuesday morning that she is running in another race — this time, for Congress.

Comstock announced her campaign to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., on Facebook and in a statement.

"I am running for Congress because I believe my strong record as a common sense conservative leader is what is needed in Congress," she stated. "I know how to effectively fight for Northern Virginia's hard working taxpayers having first learned from Congressman Wolf working in his congressional office."

In a fundraising message to supporters, Comstock said she would work to repeal and replace Obamacare, support tax breaks for individuals and small businesses, preserve the country's national security infrastructure and "Protect the U.S. Constitution and stand up for our shared common sense conservative values."

In December, Wolf announced he would retire from Congress after 34 years. Comstock was immediately named in news reports as a potential Republican candidate for his seat.

Also in December, Republican state Sen. Richard Black announced he was forming an exploratory committee for Wolf's seat.

Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust, a McLean Democrat, already has announced his intention to seek his party's nomination for the seat. Richard Bolger, a small business owner and attorney in Fairfax, also has announced he will seek the Democratic nomination. So has Leesburg architect Sam Kubba.

In November, Comstock won a bitter race to retain her seat in the state House of Delegates against Democrat Kathleen Murphy.

Her victory, which secured her third term in the state House, was one of the closest delegate races in Virginia in 2013.

She votes with the Karl Rove machine, although she tries to put a different spin on it. A disaster.
