AJ Smith

AJ Smith is an award-winning composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician (piano, guitar, violin, mandolin, & banjo), and recording artist based in New York, NY. He has written and collaborated on over 100 original songs since he began songwriting at the age of twelve, including the recent Australian Club Chart Hit (#3) “Summertime.”


In 2012, Smith was named the Songwriters Hall of Fame & NYU Steinhardt Songwriting Scholar of the Year. He opened for The Eagles at the Beacon Theatre in November 2012 performing his original song “Kings and Crowns”. On the heels of this performance, Smith began recording his debut EP, “Dragons In the Sky,” which was released to a sold out crowd at Webster Hall in New York on April 19, 2013.


In December 2012, he was named a Carol Bayer Sager Songwriting Scholar and admitted into NYU’s graduate Songwriting & Film Scoring program. Also in December, The Washington Square News named Smith Most Influential Student at NYU.

As an undergraduate at NYU, Smith won Best Original Performance in 2011′s Ultra-Violet Live Talent Competition (the same contest in which Lady Gaga competed in 2005, placing second) when he improvised an original song complete with lyrics based on genre specifications from the audience and word choices from the judges. He was selected participate in the newly formed NYU Songwriting Workshop where he worked closely with GRAMMY-winning songwriter/producer Phil Galdston, R&B/Pop songwriter/producer Barry Eastmond, and singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke.


Smith is currently collaborating on songs for the Australian clubs and is available to take on new projects.
