Blue Ridge Balladeer Malcolm Holcombe @ Amphora (Herndon)

North Carolina native Malcolm Holcombe performs at the Amphora Diner in Herndon, Tuesday June 17th as part of the Folk Club of Reston & Herndon Concert Series.

Holcombe started out playing in the country band Redwing before becoming an underground sensation in Nashville in the early 1990's. Singing poetic lines in his customary growl, he gained converts in everyone from Lucinda Williams to Steve Earle. David Fricke of Rolling Stone described Holcombe's music as "not quite country, somewhere beyond folk, kind of blues in motion mapping backwoods corners of the heart." Holcombe continues to draw plaudits from musicians ("Malcolm Holcombe's music is essential and timeless and makes the world a better place" - Tim O'Brien) and critics ("there's a wisdom to his delivery and a brittle beauty to his rootsy tunes that makes his music a pleasure to listen to" - Jim Farber New York Daily News) alike.
