Star Trek and women's
health care, both boldly going where no one has gone before!

Remember the Starship
Enterprise and Doctor McCoy?  "Bones" cured all ills with
nary a needle, knife, or pill.  It's been 45 years since Star Trek debuted
on TV.  Of even greater interest, what was science fiction then is fast
becoming science fact today.  The World Future Society, based in Bethesda
MD, tells us that researchers are busy experimenting with non-invasive surgery
using ultrasound, and with DNA robots able to deliver medicine directly to
internal problem spots.

We're on our way, but
not there quite yet.  On October 15 at 7:00 p.m., hear what
Dr. Marie Kodadek, professor in the College of Nursing and Health Science
at George Mason University, has to say about "Contemporary Women's Health
Issues," including how emerging technologies are being used in diagnosis and
treatment.

Dr. Kodadek's background
is in maternity and community health nursing.  Her current research
focuses on parenting, women's health, and end of life decision making.
She serves on the educational committee of the Association for Women's Health,
Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Northern Virginia Chapter.  Dr.
Kodadek received her BSN in 1974 from the College of Saint Teresa, Winoa, MN,
her MSN in 1976 from the University of Colorado, and her Ph.D. in 1988 from the
University of Texas at Austin.

 The McLean Community
Center is located at 1234 Ingleside Drive, McLean.  Need a ride to
attend?  Phone Barbara Sipe, 703-356-2385 (H) or 571-439-6145 (M), and
someone will pick you up and take you home.  Be sure to bring your
questions!  Friends and the public are welcome.
