CANCELLED - Conversation with Fairfax School Superintendent, Dr. Karen Garza.

Due to the closure of Fairfax Schools on March 4 -- the following event has been cancelled:

Conversation

with Fairfax School Superintendent, Dr. Karen Garza.
The McLean Citizens Association will host a Question and Answer Session with Dr. Garza, the new Fairfax School Superintendent, on Tuesday, March 4 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Call 703-442-6601 for more information.

Dr. Garza has been described by many in the County as a "breath of fresh air."  In just six months, she modified the FCPS web site and budget documents to be more accessible, transparent and user-friendly.  She also is working on projects to address concerns about class sizes, the FCPS audit function, teacher workload and morale, excessive preparation for Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, high school start times, TJ admissions and many other issues.

On January 9, Dr. Garza released the FY 2015 Budget.  On February 6, after public hearings, the School Board adopted the FY 2015 Advertised Budget. The Advertised Budget will be presented to the County Board of Supervisors on April 8, 2014.

Our school system and County face enormous challenges, both financial and programmatic.  This event is your opportunity to learn how the Superintendent proposes that we meet these challenges and to weigh in with your thoughts and concerns.  Please join us for this important conversation.  There will be ample time for questions and answers.
