The OK Corral

The OK Corral began in the summer of 2007 as high school friends Brett Nickley and Mike Matthews finished their freshman year of college. The pair went to concerts together around the DC area and realized they wanted to give the band thing a legitimate shot before school flew by and the real world swallowed them whole. The OK Corral originated as an acoustic duo, and Brett and Mike spent the summer writing 5 originals, and following a plethora of makeshift and legitimate shows, these 5 original songs later became an EP in January 2008. While the duo was eager to play their music to anyone who was willing to listen, they also desired to form a full band. After getting their EP done, various musicians temporarily got involved; practicing, playing shows, but ultimately, not fitting into the bigger picture the two had envisioned. In July of 2008, The OK Corral’s lineup was finalized with Brett Nickley on lead vocals and guitar, Mike Matthews on lead guitar and vocals, Scott Nickley ..board and vocals, and Michael Burbrink on the drums. The new lineup got off to a fast start selling out Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA in August of 2008. This was both their first show as a full band and their first sell-out performance. Despite all four members going to four different universities across the Commonwealth of Virginia, The OK Corral continues to build up a full head of steam in an effort to make their music heard. Entering the year 2009 with over 15 original songs to their name, The OK Corral has begun to play bigger and bigger shows. Playing to another sold out crowd at Jammin’ Java in January really motivated the band to keep what they had going. The band has since shared the stage with various local and regional acts including one of Purevolume.com’s top unsigned bands of 2008, Conditions of Richmond, VA, and recent Virgin Records signee, My Favorite Highway. The band has gained some national attention as they have been featured as a band of the week in AbsolutePunk.net’s self-promotion spotlight drawing comparisons with the likes of Manchester Orchestra, The Format, and Steven Kellogg and the Sixers. The OK Corral is currently looking to bring their music to your ears. With their catchy hooks, mature songwriting, and their outright eagerness to simply have a good time with everyone who is a part of their live music experience, they hope to be playing in a city near you in the near future!
