Trees 101: Get to Know our Leafy Friends in Great Falls

Have you ever wondered how to tell a white pine from a Virginia pine or a red maple from a silver maple?

Here's your chance!  With autumn colors arriving now, learn about our local trees and enjoy an afternoon walk in a beautiful Great Falls neighborhood as well.
On Sunday, October 13 beginning at 2 pm, the Great Falls Citizens Association (GFCA) will host the first-ever Village Tree Walk. Two GFCA members will lead the group on a walk on a few quiet village streets, pointing out major native trees, discussing their characteristics so you can easily identify them too, and mentioning fun facts about the trees and their role in our landscape.
This is a good way to get some exercise and learn about your community.  The tree walk is open to adults and children and it's free!
The guided tour should last about an hour and will begin at 2pm from the parking lot in the Village Center where the farmers market is held each week (next to Wells Fargo Bank).  The tour route will be on Columbine and Constellation Streets. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle, if you like. The walk will be held rain or shine.
