New Synthetic Turf Field at Great Falls Park

New turf, lighting helps meet a field shortage in the Great Falls area.

Great Falls Nike Park Field No. 4 has a new synthetic turf field and state-of-the-art lighting system.

The project cost $1.4 million through a partnership between the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County Park Authority, Great Falls Lacrosse, the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services, the Athletic Council and Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES), Stormwater Division and Land Development Services.

A ceremony to dedicate the field is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at the field, 1089 Utterback Store Rd.

"The project is part of the ongoing efforts by Fairfax County to meet the growing need for rectangularfields and address the current field shortage.  Lighted synthetic turf fields increase field capacity by approximately 62 percent, provide even playing surfaces, as well as all-weather access for players," according to a release from Fairfax County.
