Boy Scout Troop 1130, sponsored by Charles Wesley United Methodist Church in McLean, earned the Honor Troop award at summer camp the week of Aug. 4 to 10 at Camp Rodney in North East, Md.
In achieving the award, the troop received the highest marks for a clean, safe campsite, and participated in a number of campwide competitions and events.
There were many highlights over the week.
Eleven first-year Boy Scouts completed a demanding program introducing them to the basic skills required for safety in the outdoors.
Aaron Ahlgrimm was the winner of the 1-mile open water swim in the Chesapeake Bay. Dylan Gillespie completed the rigorous 20-mile mountain bike competition through Elk Neck State Park. Troop 1130’s team won the Camp Rodney ironman with events in climbing, running, biking and kayaking. And the troop won the campwide volleyball tournament.
Twenty-eight Boy Scouts, led by Eagle Scout Aaron Ahlgrimm, attended camp and earned over 100 merit badges.
The troop thanks the residents of McLean and Falls Church for supporting the spring mulch fundraiser, which helps the scouts to attend the summer camp.
