After the champagne is corked, the noisemakers put away, and the lyrics of Auld Lang Syne wind to a close, the blank slate of the new year rises forth.

The truth is you could conjure up a fresh start any day of the year; but there is something poetic in the eternal optimism that comes every January 1st.

With that in mind, here are Joie's resolutions for 2012:

Nibble

We love to nosh on the healthy fare at Sweet Leaf, like the Berry Leaf salad with baby spinach, strawberries, cucumber, almonds, and strawberry balsamic dressing. Their vanilla frozen yogurt topped with pineapple, mango, and peaches is a yummy treat that won’t wreck your waistline. Sweet Leaf Cafe/1359 Chain Bridge Road/McLean, VA 22101-3903/703-893-2323.

Sweat

Bikram yoga—the series of 26 yoga postures and two breathing exercises practiced in a 105 degree room—is a hot, intense, and totally satisfying workout that will leave you stronger and leaner in a matter of weeks. Did we mention it is hot? Our suggestion—bring towels. Lots of towels.

Bikram Tysons Hot Yoga is now offering new student specials; an intro week is $20, and an intro month is $75 dollars. Bikram Tysons/1420 Spring Hill Road. Suite 130/Mclean, VA 22102/703-854-1611.

Organize

Having cute office supplies makes keeping desks neat at home and at work so much more bearable. We love these Whitney English file folders, available at Preppy Pink Pony. And how about these personalized recipe cards? They might propel us to finally organize all the recipes on random bits of paper and magazine cutouts floating around our kitchen. Preppy Pink Pony/1355 Chain Bridge Road/McLean, VA/703-556-3237.

Give Back

With the war in Iraq officially over, thousands of troops are on their way home. There has never been a better time to consider a gift to Thanks USA—the charity started by two McLean teens with the aim to provide scholarship money to vets. (We this amazing cause a few months ago.)

Cheers to a fabulous 2012!!
