UPDATE: Fairfax Schools Opening On Time

Feds to Its Workers---Stay Off the Roads Until 9am

10:51pm UPDATE. VDOT recommends that motorists consider teleworking or delaying travel until after 10 a.m. Monday.

About 770 trucks are patrolling roads in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, continuously treating icy spots such as ramps, bridges, elevated surfaces and other problem areas, according to a VDOT statement.

Drivers are encouraged to check current weather, road conditions and traffic cameras before traveling at www.511virginia.org or by calling 511.

UPDATE: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) said Federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area will open Monday, Jan. 23, under an 11:00 a.m. delayed arrival, due to expected icy conditions.

"Employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework," said the online notice.

OPM recommends Federal employees remain off the road until 9:00 a.m.

ORIGINAL STORY. 4:45pm National Weather Service have issued a freezing rain advisory for Fairfax County and surrounding areas from 4pm. tonight to 6am. Monday morning.

Expect less than a tenth of an inch of accumulation.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s. Light ice on the roadways and elevated surfaces will make traveling hazardous. Temperatures will not go above freezing until around 9 AM Monday morning.
