Funeral Service for McLean Fourth-Grader Set for Saturday in Georgia

Conor Tierney Loved Sponge Bob Square Pants and all things chocolate.

Services will be held Saturday in Rome, GA, for Conor Tierney, 10, a fourth-grader at Franklin Sherman Elementary School who died in a boating accident July 6 while vacationing with his family in Georgia.

His family lives in McLean but is from Plainville, GA.

Conor was born May 31, 2001 in Ft. Campbell, KY. He was a member of Scout Troop 667 in McLean. Conor was on the McLean Lions wrestling team and was so proud that he had completed his training for the fifth-grade safety patrol "Kiss and Ride" student drop off, according to the obituary published by the Daniel's Funeral Home of Rome.

Conor and his 13-year-old brother were riding jet skis on Lake Lanier in Dawson County, GA, when the vehicles collided, Dawson County coroner Ted Bearden said. Conor died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash, Bearden said.

"Conor was an avid fan of Sponge Bob Square Pants and all things chocolate. One specific thing Conor enjoyed so much was flying his grandfather's J-3 Cub airplane. Conor made such an impact on everyone's life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all his friends," his obituary stated.

Survivors include his parents, Patrick Edward Tierney and Sandra (Sandy) Ruth Tierney; brothers, Ryan Tierney and Burke Tierney and sister, Kaitlin Tierney. Also surviving are his grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Jenkins of Plainville, and Bill and Judie Harmon of Clarksville, GA.

The memorial service for Conor will at 11 a.m. in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10 to 11 am. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution be made to a charity to be named.
