No McLean Connection to Slain Navy Seal

Washington Post corrects its report

UPDATE:  A U.S. Navy Seal killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan has no connection with McLean.

Washington Post reporter Tom Jackman reported Monday morning that Aaron Vaughn was from McLean. By Monday afternoon, Jackman had corrected his report.

The family lives in Virginia Beach. His wife is a former Redskins cheerleader. The couple met in Guam during an USO tour, according to news reports.

ORIGINAL Story: 2:30 p.m.This is what we know about reports that one of the U.S. Navy Seals killed in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan has a connection to McLean.

The Washington Post has reported that Aaron Vaughn is from McLean but has no details. The Associated Press has a complete story on Vaughn's background that says:

"Aaron Vaughn grew up in rural Obion County outside of Union City in northwestern Tennessee and briefly moved with his parents to Stuart, Fla., as a teen. He returned to Obion County to finish his senior year of high school, then attended two years of college before joining the Navy," according to the Associated Press.

Matt Lauer interviewed Vaughn's wife and his parents on the TODAY show this morning. The date line on that interview was McLean Virginia but that was the only reference to McLean.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Vaughn attended Martin County High School briefly while his parents lived in Stuart, Florida then they returned to Union City Tennessee. The Palm Beach Post further reported that his parents still live in Union City, Tenn.

The  Palm Beach Post mentions no McLean connection in their extensive story.

The Washington Post reported that Vaughn was from McLean but gave no details and simply linked to the TODAY show interview.

A U.S. military helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan, killing 38, including 22 SEALs including Vaughn. The 30-year old leaves behind his wife, Kimberly, and two children, 2-year-old son Reagan and 2-month-old daughter Chamberlyn.
