The McLean Choral Society gets decapitated due to financial concerns.

Hear ye! Hear ye!
It is not untrue to admit that at McLean High School, the arts are under-appreciated! Yes, programs such as band and theater have a relatively decent, yet small portion of influence in the hallways, but that is because of band being the most popular of the arts departments, and because theater kids are highly proficient at advertising their productions. Although one occasionally hears word of the goings-on in these two awesome programs in the halls, McLean's social atmosphere usually is dominated by athletics. Social context is just one of the many areas in which McLean's arts department has been undermined.

Now, this major suppression of  McLean's artist community has reached its crux. A few days ago, I learned that the two most prestigious choral groups in the school, the McLean Madrigals and Armonia, would be dropped from the course curriculum next year, due to the school being unable to pay for the Choir instructor, Linda Martin, the salary of a full-time teacher. Many of my dear friends and fellow thespians are in the chorus department, individuals which I can confirm have a great character, resolve, and sense of humor. I cannot begin to understand the intense grief, disappointment, fear, and anger they must be feeling, and I hope it can be pressed onto others, who can take action on this issue like I am.

Yet, strong words and deep pockets will determine this outcome, not strong emotions. To quote Game of Thrones character Stannis "The Mannis" Baratheon, "If I [the McLean Choral Society, in this sense] do not press my claim, my claim will be forgotten. I  will not become a page in someone else's history book". It is simple. McLean requires a thriving Arts department to at least be a half-decent environment. I have no qualms against athletics, (as a former student athlete I agree that McLean sports are AWESOME and a great way to stay healthy and grow socially) but McLean high school should have a thriving arts program and therefore a thriving chorus to allow for those with creative talents (ones not pertaining to physical and academic feats) to allow their gifts to thrive and prosper, allowing for those who do not apply to the conventional paths and leaning points in society to have an outlet.
The least I could ask would be that the Arts get an equal amount of recognition in the school's social atmosphere, if not in the administrative one. I ran for student body president recently, championing these ideals, but alas, I lost to an equally qualified candidate

Yes, I may not have the qualifications to judge my school's financial priorities, but it'd be nice if they actually gave the tiniest attention to those they are paid to "educate".

Am I wrong? Am I right? Let the future decide.
