Update, May 17, 1:13 p.m.:

Police have charged Johnathan Davon Coleman, 20, with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony and one count of discharging a firearm in public.

Prince William County police public information officer Jonathan Perok said that a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman both of Dumfries had been shot. This was following an altercation that escalated between two known acquaintances in the 2900 block of Wetherburn Ct.

"This incident stemmed from an encounter which took place earlier in the day involving the related parties," said Perok. "The victims are not believed to have been involved in the altercation originally but were inadvertently shot as a result of the altercation which took place in front of a residence in the above area. As a result the victims and several vehicles were struck. No other injuries were reported."

Perok said both victim have been treated and released from the hospital. A vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses at the shooting scene was found and stopped in the area of Barksdale Road and Beale Court in Dale City.

As a result of the stop, Coleman, of no fixed address, was detained and charged in the shooting. An investigation continues, police said.
