Details About Fatal Lewinsville Road Crash Released

An adult woman was killed in the accident, but police have not released her identity.

The circumstances of a single vehicle car crash on Lewinsville Road at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday have been released by Fairfax County police investigators.

"Witnesses observed a 2011 Toyota Sienna heading eastbound on Lewinsville Road when the driver apparently lost control just prior to Swinks Mill Road. The Toyota struck a tree and rolled back onto the roadway, where it caught fire. An adult female was found deceased inside the charred vehicle," a police statement reports.

A section of Lewinsville Road was closed for several hours on Tuesday as police reconstructed the accident.

"It is unknown if speed, alcohol or a medical condition were factors in the crash. Investigation continues."

According to WJLA, authorities said Tuesday that "conditions were poor at the time of the crash. It was raining hard when the crash happened, and the wet conditions may have contributed to the crash.

The identity of the victim will not be released until the medical examiner’s report is published, police say.
