McLean Teen was Driver in Fatal Crash at U.S. Capitol

Hunter B. Harries, 19, was a college student at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.

The driver in a violent car crash that took place at the U.S. Capitol late last week was a resident of McLean.

The person at the wheel of the tragic crash early Friday was Hunter B. Harries, 19. Police say he hit a flower planter at 3 a.m., which sent the SUV he was driving into the air, before it crashed into a tree. He died at a local hospital, according to the New York Daily News. The planter was located just on the edge of the U.S. Capitol grounds.

The violent collision ejected the engine and a floor mat that was found dangling high up in the tree.

Harries was on spring break from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harries family, his friends, and the Rollins community during this difficult time,” the college said in a statement. He graduated last year from Portsmouth Abbey School, a boarding school in Rhode Island, according to The Washington Post.

Services are scheduled for Monday at 3 p.m. at St. Alban's in D.C., according to a posting on Facebook.
