First Responders Take Field for a Cause in Falls Church Saturday

Fundraiser football game to provide donation to non-profit organization.

When the Washington D.C. Generals step on the football field at in Falls Church today, they will do so for a purpose.

The team, composed of police officers and firefighters from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, will faceoff against Atlanta Defenders in Police Memorial Bowl V, to raise money for Concerns of Police Survivors Inc. COPS, a Missouri-based non-profit organization, helps families of law enforcement agents killed in the line of duty get their lives back in order. Mike Weller, head football coach of the team and a sergeant with the Prince George County Police, is hopeful the game will draw a good crowd.

“I’m hoping we get good weather,” Weller said.

Saturday’s game will be the third of five games the Generals will play this year. The Generals, who play their home games in Falls Church, play in the 26-team National Public Safety Football League. Weller said if the weather holds up, there will be recruitment booths from the various public safety agencies in the metropolitan area. A $5 donation will be collected at the gate, Weller said and fans can also buy Challenge Coins to commemorate the game and honor those officers that we have lost in the line of duty for $10.

Here is some information about the game:
