Rush Hour Traffic Flowing Again on Georgetown Pike

UPDATE: Georgetown Pike just reopened to rush hour traffic.

Dominion Power crews have repaired the downed power line.

Earlier story: A traffic accident of undetermined origin knocked down a power line closing Georgetown Pike a major route from McLean to Loudoun County during rushhour.

Fairfax County Police do not expect Georgetown Pike to reopen until at least 5 p.m. Dominion Power is now replacing the down pole.

Just avoid Georgetown Pike west of the Beltway.

Hundreds of cars are making U-turns just west of Swinks Mill. Most are  turning onto Swinks Mill South turning this narrow two-lane road into a parking lot from Georgetown Pike past Old Dominion to Lewinsville Road.

Stay away!

Georgetown Pike which runs from Route 123 North to Route 7 nearly into Loudoun County handles thousands of cars daily and is a major commuter route in Fairfax County. 

Dominion Power crews worked to erect a pole that had been sheared off and reconnect the wires.

They hope to reopen about 5 p.m.
