Graduation for Newly-Minted Deputy Sheriffs, Police Officers

Madeira School Hosts Graduation

Our neighbors at Madeira School recently hosted the graduation of  which 11 new deputy sheriffs, along with 27 new police officers from 57th session of the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.
 
Courtney Lynch, a former Marine Corps captain and best-selling author of Leading from the Front was the keynote speaker.  Lynch is co-founder of Lead Star, a consulting firm that provides practical, relevant, and techniques for growing leaders. Their clients include Wal-Mart, Dell, FedEx, Cisco Systems and Charles Schwab, said a press release from the Fairfax County Sheriffs department.
 
“Your leadership skills will determine success or failure on the streets,” said Lynch. “True leadership is your ability to influence outcomes and to inspire others.”
 
Deputy Sheriff Hyung Kim was elected class president and Deputy Sheriff Sherry Corder was elected class treasurer by their peers. Kim spoke to the gathering of law enforcement officers and their families about the demands of the job and the respect that comes with it.  “Let us always remember that rule number one is officer safety,” said Kim.  “Every day we will be called upon to be courageous to protect our community,” the press release said.
 
The newly-minted law enforcement officers spent six months at the academy learning every phase of law enforcement principles and procedures. Upon graduation each recruit is a certified law enforcement officer

The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for managing the Adult Detention Center, providing security in the courthouses and serving civil law process. Fairfax is the largest Sheriff’s office in Virginia and among the largest in the country.

The Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy is the training center for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfax County Police Department, and the Town of Herndon and Vienna Police Departments. In addition, it provides training for the Fairfax County Fire Department fire marshals.

The graduation is usually held at George Marshall High School, but this year it was moved to one of the most prestigious and exclusive private schools in the U.S.
