Two stranded hikers were rescued over the weekend at Great Falls Park.

Fairfax County Professional Firefighters & Paramedics shared the above photo on Facebook of the rescue, which was performed by Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Special Ops personnel.

The two adult men were stranded on a rock ledge in the park, in the main Potomac Gorge area, at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, Fairfax County Fire & Rescue spokesman Dan Schmidt told Patch.

Firefighters rappelled to the men, latched onto them and then lowered them below, Schmidt said. The men were put in swift water boats and taken ashore at Sandy Landing, he said.

Schmidt was not sure how the men got stranded. No injuries were reported.

Great Falls Park is at 9200 Old Dominion Drive, McLean.
