Listen: Police Release 9-1-1 Calls from Tyson's Movie Theater Evacuation

The Fairfax County Police Department has released 9-1-1 calls in hopes that someone will be able to help in the investigation of the Tyson's movie theater evacuation last weekend, after reports of suspicious "popping" noises.

Releasing the calls "helps us underscore the importance of solving these cases," said FCPD spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell. "It might jog someone's memory: 'Oh, I did see something.' We need the public's help."

These 9-1-1 calls were some of those placed to the Department of Public Safety Communications on the night of the Tysons Corner AMC movie theater evacuation. The Fire Marshal’s office is seeking witnesses and information from anyone who may be able to help identify a suspect in this case.

Police and fire personnel responded to the Tyson’s Corner Center AMC Theaters in McLean shortly after midnight Saturday (early Sunday) for a report of suspicious “popping noises.” Officials and theater employees quickly determined that the noises were not gunfire; but were the result of a detonation of two soda bottle “chemical” devices. There were no injuries.

Reports indicated that there were two devices near the entrances of two of the movie theaters. There are a total of 16 theaters in the complex. In an abundance of caution, all 16 theaters, and the food court, were evacuated so that officials could ensure there were no additional devices in the area.
