Mars Candy Heiress Pleads Guilty to Reckless Driving in Fatal Crash
The co-owner of the confectionary giant struck a van along Route 50, killing a woman from Texas.

Jacqueline Badger Mars, one of the richest people in the world and co-owner of the McLean-based Mars candy company, pleaded guilty to reckless driving Thursday in an October car crash that killed a Texas woman, according to the Associated Press.
Mars was traveling along Route 50 in October when her Porsche SUV struck a minivan and killed one of its occupants in Loudoun County.

The judge ordered Mars to pay a $2,500 fine and suspended her license for six months. Mars faced up to a year in jail, but the victims’ families asked she not be incarcerated, according to the AP.
Mars apologized for the crash, which left Irene Ellisor, of Huntsville, Texas, dead.
