McLean Coach Resigns After Drug Charge

A McLean High School baseball coach has resigned after being charged with a drug offense.

John K. Thomas, a baseball coach at McLean High, was charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a license on Feb. 5, said Fairfax County Police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell. Fairfax County Schools spokesman John Torre said Tuesday that Thomas had resigned as a coach at McLean High School.

Thomas is also a special education teacher at the high school. Torre said he will continue his teaching assignment at the school as a special education instructor.

Thomas, 35, of Fairfax was stopped by Fairfax County police for displaying an improper vehicle registration at about 2:45 p.m. Feb. 5 on the exit onto I-66 from eastbound Route 7, Caldwell said.
