Victims Identified in Murder-Suicide in McLean

Event occurred in a home near Georgetown Pike

Update 3:30 p.m. July 23: Police have identified the doctor as Mark Lawrence, 71, of McLean, and the patient as 62-year-old Barbara Newman of Vienna.

Police are investigating the deaths of two people in a home in the 8600 block of Tebbs Lane. Police were called to the home at approximately 4:15 p.m., Friday July 22 for a report of gunshots. Officers located the bodies of two people; a man and a woman on the premises.

The man has been preliminarily identified as a 71-year-old resident of the home where he lived and worked as a psychiatrist. The woman, 62, had been his patient. Detectives have preliminarily determined that the patient shot the doctor, then herself.
Identification of the man will be withheld pending an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

The woman’s identify will be are withheld until family members are notified. The investigation is continuing.

According to Fairfax County land records, the home is owned by Mark Lawrence. A Dr. Mark Lawrence, has a web page saying he runs a psychiatry office out of a house at the Tebbs Lane address.

The Lawrence's  built the house in 1970.
