This Sunday, it is time to celebrate Your Mom. Whether you have a leisurely brunch in mind, or an outing to the city, Patch has your round-the-clock picks for a memorable Mother’s Day fete.

Morning/Afternoon

What/When: Mother’s Day Brunch at Wildfire; 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Why Go: Wildfire Tysons will be serving their holiday brunch menu in honor of Mom’s special day. The menu is totally indulgent, featuring dishes like upside-down apple French toast, prime rib hash, crab cakes benedict, and sparkling punch.

Price: Entrée items $8.95 - $13.95

What/When: Open Kitchen Mother's Day Cooking Class and Meal; 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Why Go: Forget the Eggo waffles. At Open Kitchen—Falls Church’s premier bistro and cooking school—Dads and kids can learn how to cook--then take home--a gourmet meal for Mom. Won’t she be elated when you walk in the door with a hand-made, three course feast?

Price: The cost is $179 for two parents and one child. Each additional child is $25.

 

What/When: Mother’s Day Brunch in Ritz Carlton’s Old Dominion Room; Seating’s from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Why Go: It’s probably the classiest way to kick off Mother’s Day. Treat her to a Champagne Brunch with live musical entertainment in The Old Dominion Room, complete with a made-to-order omelet station, raw bar, carving station, and dessert station.

Price: $120 per adult, $40 per child (ages 4-12) exclusive of tax and gratuity.

 

What/When: Mother’s Day at Michel; Seating’s from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Why Go: The innovative and modern Michel restaurant is a favorite of chic McLean moms. They will be offering a special holiday menu featuring Crab Cake Benedict and Filet Mignon Bordelaise, topped off with a selection of dessert temptations from chef Michel Richard’s newest cookbook, “Sweet Magic: Easy Recipes for Delectable Desserts.”

Price: $65 per person.

What/When/Where: Sun., May 15, 4pm:  The Amadeus Orchestra. Saint Luke Parish, 7001 Georgetown Pike.

Why Go:  Enjoy a concert with Mom  at one of McLean's most beautiful churches. A.Scott Wood conducting and Steven Honigberg on cello, displays the magic of water in this performance.  Beginning with glacial ice and climaxing in full torrent, Smetana's The Moldau paints a vivid scene of the powerful river, while Schumann's Symphony No. 3 follows the gentle path of the Rhine as it flows through Cologne.  Mr. Honigberg is a member of the National Symphony Orchestra, portrays the richness of Bohemian music with Dvorak's beloved Cello Concerto.

 Afternoon/Evening

What/When: Picturing Mothers at Gunston Hall; Noon to 5:00 pm.          

Why Go: Gunston Hall—the home of George Mason—is an immaculately preserved historical treasure, just 45 minutes away from McLean. On Mother’s Day, the Hall is highlighting pastimes and pursuits of women in the days of yore. Visitors can learn period dance steps during the World of Women plantation tours at 1:15 and 3:15 p.m., then relax with a cup of tea and pastry while a silhouette artist creates keepsake images of family members from 2 to 4 p.m. 

Price: Free admission for mothers, grandmothers, and Friends of Gunston Hall. Separate fee for silhouettes.

 What/When: Capitol Hill Restoration Society Mother’s Day House and Garden Tour; 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

Why Go: For over 50 years, CHRS has organized an annual tour of homes and gardens in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood on Mother's Day weekend. Needless to say, they know how to showcase the beauty and style of D.C. The tour this year will be between 9th & 13th Streets SE below East Capitol Street to Pennsylvania Avenue.

Price: Tickets are $25 each in advance and $30 on the tour weekend.

What/When: J. Gilbert’s Mother's Day dinner menu and Prix-Fixe; 4:00 to 9:00 pm.

Why Go: J. Gilbert’s is also hosting a Mother’s Day brunch buffet, but their three-course dinner prix-fixe menu looks much more interesting. Choose from entrees like grilled New Zealand rack of lamb, short ribs, and sea scallops. Polish the meal off with crème brulee, chocolate velvet cake, or both. Mom knows that calories don’t count on Mother’s Day.

Price: $35 exclusive of tax and gratuity.

All Day

What/When: Celebrate Your Mother at The Day Spa at the Ritz Carlton; 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: This is the ultimate pampering experience. The Ritz’s signature spa services will be enhanced with a glass of sparkling champagne upon Mom’s arrival. After her spa treatment, she can enjoy pool side fresh fruit and sweets presentations from The Pastry Shop.

Price: Varies based on choice of spa treatment.
