Update: Scam Artists Trick McLean Residents into Football Team Donations

Two men have been charged for forgery for collecting donations for a football team fraudulently.

Update Aug. 15: The two men claimed to be from Thurgood Marshall Academy, according to Fairfax County police. There is a charter school with that name in Washington, DC.

Two men who pretended they were football players seeking cash donations for their high school team were charged by Fairfax County Police on Wednesday.

A women who donated $20 to what she believed to be a good cause contacted police after she discovered that the school the suspects claimed to attend did not have a football team.

After an investigation, Kevin Crouch of Temple Hills, Md., and Jerell Henry of Washington, DC, both 20 years old, were each charged with one count of forgery.

Police believe there could be more than two-dozen people who made cash donations to the men. The police did not release the name of the high school that the two men claimed they played football for, and Patch will offer more details when they are available.
