School Bus Runs Off Old Dominion Drive

No injuries reported after bus veers off road around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.

A Fairfax County school bus transporting elementary school-aged children to their first day of school veered off the road and was stuck in a ditch early Tuesday morning on the side of Old Dominion Drive near Tolston Road in McLean.

The Fairfax County Police Department will not be able to release full details of the accident report until 4 p.m. Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

John Torre, a spokesman for Fairfax County Public Schools, said six students were on the bus at the time of the incident. None were injured. A second bus picked the children up and took them to school, Torre said. He did not immediately know which school the students attended.

"It was a relatively minor accident," Torre said.

The police spokesman confirmed no injuries were reported. The cause of the accident in unknown at this time.

Tuesday morning marked the first day back to school for Fairfax County Public School students.

At about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, the police department fielded an emergency call that a bus ran off the road. The police spokesman said he did not know if an other vehicles were involved in the accident.
