UPDATE: Charges Filed in Dulles Toll Road Traffic Death

Accident sends family reeling

Charges have been brought against two men for their alleged involvement in last month's death of a construction supervisor on the Dulles Toll Road just east of the Toll Plaza.

Henry Jackson, 59, of Sparks, Nevada, was charged with reckless driving; Anokh Sing, 43, of Reston, was charged with stopping on the roadway,  according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which operates the Toll Road. The spokesperson said the Toll Road Police brought the charges after consultation with the Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Office.

Kenneth Wright, of Woodbine, Md., and his brother Lonnie were on their way home from their construction jobs around 3 p.m. Nov. 19,  when the taxi in front of them suddenly stopped in the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Toll Road just east of the main toll plaza in Tysons Corner.

The Wrights' pickup truck hit the taxi. Both drivers got out with their vehicles in the third lane of traffic. Wright suggested they move to the shoulder out of the traffic. The taxi driver allegedly refused. Suddenly another truck hit the Wrights' truck sending it in the air with Lonnie inside.

It landed on Kenneth Wright, killing him instantly. That's how Donna Wright, Kenneth Wright's widow, said her husband died.

Mrs. Wright said Monday night after learning of the charges from McLean Patch, "I have yet to hear from the police about the charges filed. I still feel the man that killed Kenneth should be charged with vehicular manslaughter. Reckless driving is just a slap on the hand."

The airports authority statement came the same day that McLean Patch published a story saying that Donna Wright was looking for people who saw the accident.

"I'm asking for witnesses due to I'm afraid this person is going to get away with killing my husband. I don't feel the police are doing all they can. They are fixed on did my husband have his flashers on. But everyone else saw my husband's truck. This person just ran right into him and never even tried to stop," she said.

The Airports Authority statement did not say when the charges were filed. It gave no details of what roles the two people charged may have played in the accident. And it did not explained how Mr. Wright was  killed. McLean Patch has asked the Airports Authority to share those details with the public.

When the accident occurred, the Airports Authority released very basic information about the accident that closed that section of the Toll Road, which takes motorists to the Beltway, McLean and Route 66.  Rush hour traffic backed up as far as Reston for hours. The lanes reopened about 8 p.m.

A spokesman for the Airport Authority said the week following the accident they would release no additional information about the accident which was still under investigation. When the investigation was complete, they would share the information with the Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney, the spokesperson said.

The day of the accident, Mrs. Wright said she was at home wondering why she hadn't heard from her husband. She had called him about 3 and there was no answer. Then Lonnie came to her home that evening to tell her how she had lost her husband.

"Lonnie was hurt. He is still dealing with that," she said. "Plus the accident plays over and over in his head. ... Lonnie watched this person kill his baby brother and best friend. Kenny was number 9 of 10 children his parents had."

Wright, 52, was born in Frederick, Md. The couple lived in Woodbine, Md. He was a foreman for various construction companies, Mrs. Wright said.  Currently, he and his brother were working on Metro's Silver Line whose route is down the center of the Toll Road west of Route 7.  He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, according to his obituary.

In addition to his wife, survivors include  stepchildren Jennifer A. Gick and  her husband Gregory, and Mark Cardwell, all of Woodbine, the obituary said. He was also a grandfather.

"This person has taken everything away from me and my family," Mrs. Wright said.  "Kenny waited 44 years before he got married, and I was the one he married. We had only been married for eight years. This person took my soul mate, best friend, my everything. Not only my family and his, but friends of ours and his have been affected by this."
