Beltway May Totally Close Overnight This week

Beltway Could Close in Both Directions for Subway Construction

The Capital Beltway (I-495) through Tysons Corner might be totally closed in both directions for up to 15 minutes during the overnight hours this week for construction of the tracks that will take the new Silver subway line up and over 495.

The Capital Beltway is a major traffic artery in the Washington Metro area.      


I-495 SOUTHBOUND:
Monday, July 11 - Tuesday, July 12. Three lanes closed between Old Dominion Drive and Route 123, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Possible 15 minute maximum FULL CLOSURE of I-495 may be necessary for motorist safety. 
 
Wednesday, July 13 - Saturday, July 16
Two left lanes closed between Lewinsville Road and Route 123, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Possible 15 minute maximum FULL CLOSURE of I-495 may be necessary for motorist safety. 
 
I-495 NORTHBOUND:
Wednesday, July 13 - Saturday, July 16
Two left lanes closed from 1,000 feet south of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Route 123, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Possible 15 minute maximum FULL CLOSURE of I-495 may be necessary for motorist safety.

What:         Right turn lane to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) closed
Where:       From 500 feet north of Route 7 to Route 7
Why:          Sidewalk repairs
 
Route 123 South Day Work
 
When:        Monday, July 11 - Thursday, July 14, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
                  Friday, July 15, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What:         Rightmost right turn lane of southbound Route 123 to Tysons Boulevard closed.
Where:       From beginning of turn lane to Tysons Boulevard to 150 feet south of Galleria Drive
Why:          Guideway construction
 
Route 123 South Night Work
 
When:        Tuesday, July 12, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What:         Right thru lane of southbound Route 123 closed
Where:       From Ramp K (ramp from Route 267 east to Route 123 south) to Capital One Drive
Why:          Tysons East Station construction

Overnight Closures of Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Resume

The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed near Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15, for pier and station work.

Thru traffic on eastbound Tysons Boulevard toward Route 123 will be detoured as follows:

  • Left on Galleria Drive/Westpark Drive
  • Left on Westbranch Drive
  • Right on Tysons Boulevard
  • Left on International Drive to access Route 123

An alternate route for hotels and businesses along Tysons Boulevard would be to turn left on to westbound Tysons Boulevard, then left on International Drive.

Water Main Installation, Paving Operations Scheduled Overnights on Leesburg Pike (Route 7)

Drivers in Tysons Corner should expect construction activity and lane closures along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) between the Dulles Toll Road and Spring Hill Road next week. Work is expected to occur between approximately 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. weeknights, and until 9 a.m. on weekends.

Please note that paving is an extremely dangerous activity, so increased backup beeper noise may be more audible during nighttime work to ensure worker safety.

ON THE HORIZON: Segmental Bridge Work to Begin Overnight Closures of Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road Intersection at Leesburg Pike (Route 7)

The large blue-and-yellow truss is almost ready to begin bridge construction along the median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) . The first crossing, over the Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersection, is expected to begin the week of July 17.

When bridge construction is underway, Westpark/Gosnell will be closed at Route 7 during the overnight hours, Sundays through Fridays, for approximately four weeks. Detours around this intersection will be required.

Westbound Route 7 traffic, to access Gosnell – continue on Route 7, U-turn at Spring Hill Road, then turn right on to Gosnell Road.

Eastbound Route 7 traffic, to access Westpark – continue on Route 7, pass Route 123, left on International Drive, left on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), then immediate exit on to the ramp to Route 7, to turn right on Westpark.

Thru traffic on either Westpark or Gosnell – use the Route 7 detours listed above
