Cancelled: Overnight Closing of Route 7

Route 7 Closing to Start Sunday Night.

Update: The overclosing of the westbound lanes of Route 7 were cancelled by the folks building the metro late this afternoon.

As usual, no reason was given for the cancellation. Metro sometimes sends out lots of information about closings then at the last minute cancels them with no explanation.

The closing is now scheduled for Sunday night.

Earlier Story: Traffic on westbound Route 7 between Route 123 and Westpark Drive in Tysons Corner will be reduced to a single lane overnight Thursday, because of subway construction down the middle of Route 7.

This work had been scheduled to start Friday night.

Crews will be moving the westbound lanes of Route 7 slightly north to allow construction of the west end of the two tunnels that are being built to carry future Silver Line trains from the Tysons Central 123 Metrorail Station at Route 123 and Tysons Boulevard into the Tysons Central 7 station in the median of Route 7 near SAIC and Marshalls.

The lane shift begins at 10:30 p.m. Thursday night and will require the closing of the right and center thru lanes. Only the left lane will remain open. At approximately 2 a.m. Friday morning, the left and center lanes will close and traffic will be directed to use the newly opened right lane. All work will be completed by 7 a.m. Friday.

Police will be on site for motorists' safety. In case of inclement weather, this work is expected to be done overnight Friday, April 1.
