Falls Church City Attorney Named Division Counsel for Fairfax County Public Schools

John Foster replaces Anne Murphy, who is retiring.

Falls Church City Attorney John Foster has been named the new division counsel for Fairfax County Public Schools. 

Foster currently serves as chief legal adviser to the Falls Church City School Board and the City Council, providing counsel on land use and zoning, taxation, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, social services, contracts, procurement, real estate, employment, legislation and litigation. Foster has served in that capacity since 2008.

Before joining Falls Church, Foster was assistant county attorney at the Fairfax County Attorney’s Office, where he specialized in construction litigation, rezoning and land use issues. He was in private practice before joining the County Attorney’s Office.

Foster received an Outstanding Service Award in 2004, 2006 and 2007 from the Fairfax County Attorney’s Office.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Foster earned his bachelor’s degree in history and foreign affairs at the University of Virginia.
