McLean Republican begins third term in state House in January.

State Del. Barbara Comstock, a McLean Republican, who won a tight race to hold on to her seat in November, has been named chairwoman of the House Science and Technology Committee.

For Comstock, who begins her third term in January, it's her first chairmanship, according to her office. Republican House Speaker Bill Howell made the appointment.

"Barbara Comstock is one of the brightest and most energetic lawmakers in the General Assembly. She has worked tirelessly on issues important to Northern Virginia and the entire Commonwealth," Howell said in a statement. "For years she has been a leader on issues related to economic development and technology. This experience and knowledge will make her a great Chairwoman."
