F. Lynn McNulty, 'Government Information Security Pioneer', Dies

McNulty was diagnosed with diffuse large B-Cell lymphoma in 2011.

F. Lynn McNulty, "a cybersecurity pioneer, the ‘father’ of U.S. federal information security and mentor to thousands of individuals in his field," died peacefully at his home in McLean on Monday, his family has announced.

According to his obituary,

"During his 30-year career as a federal employee, McNulty served as the first director of Information Systems Security for the U.S. State Department, as security program manager for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and as a policy liaison for computer security issues between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other federal agencies, Congress and the private sector. He also played a key role in influencing national security policy on everything from export controls on commercial encryption products to the deployment of public key infrastructure."
