Governor Attends Private Fundraiser for Comstock

Fundraising Party at home of Bobbi Kilberg

Gov. Bob McDonnell comes to McLean tonight as the star attraction of an fundraiser for Del. Barbara Comstock.

McLean Patch had intended to bring you the governor's comments, quotes from Comstock's supporters and a idea of who was attending the Tuesday evening gathering in Langley at the home of Bobbie Kilberg, president and CEO of the Northern Virginia Tech Council.

Alas, Comstock and her aides barred us at the door - again.*

Since we have received numerous invitations to this affair and since fundraisers given by her opponent Pamela Danner are always open to the press, we told Comstock that we would attend.

Campaign manager Amanda Isaacson sent a terse note saying this was a private gathering and we would not be allowed in.

McLean Patch met Kilberg at the  front door and she invited us in. Isaacson, who grew up in McLean, immediately nixed that gracious invitation.

Candidates can run their campaigns as they choose and Comstock has chosen not to divulge her supporters until she has to list them in campaign finance reports.

Ticket prices ranged from $250 to $5,000 for this event.

More details to follow. Now we have to get out of the rain.

*Comstock and her staff threw us out of another fundraising party headlined by the governor last September. Then, they even escorted us off the property.
