Guns, Budget Amendments and School Buses on Falls Church Council Agenda

Council will hear several first readings Monday night.

For the second time this year, the City of Falls Church council will meet at City Hall.

The 7:30 p.m. meeting in council chambers will be the first regular meeting following last week’s work session. The full agenda features council’s first readings of a resolution supporting gun legislation, an ordinance against vehicles passing stopped school buses and an ordinance amending the fiscal year 2013 general fund budget.

Public comments will be heard before the agenda gets underway with a report of improvements to the W&OD Trail.

Stopped School buses with laws from many states and people from those many states, stopped school buses have many rules. People here are from all over the globe. Many states allow passing a school bus if the little stop sign isn't extended on the bus's driver side. Why is that? Because, that sign indicates if school children are going to be crossing in front of the bus or not. Virginia law requires all traffic to stop in all directions when a bus has it's red lights flashing, no matter if children are crossing or not. However, this is not true in all states. That little stop sign means a lot to out of state drivers. If it isn't used, why would it be on a bus? Since it is standard equipment and safety is the reason behind it, then this stop sign must be extended to make sure all traffic stops for the bus. Not doing so endangers the riders of said bus, while loading and unloading. Seems that the bus drivers needs to educated to the uses of that stop sign, Otherwise, drivers just reflect on their own state's laws and forget that they moved to Virginia
