Letter to the Editor: Equal Justice Under Law

2012 nominee for the 10th Congressional District in Virginia Kristin Cabral on Rep. Frank Wolf's backing of a constitutional amendment on marriage.

Equality of marriage is American.  Within days of our nation’s highest court declaring marriage discrimination illegal, Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) has joined arch conservative Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) in backing a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality.

The Supreme Court’s majority found that marriage discrimination fundamentally opposes the foundation of our rights, the U.S. Constitution.  Equality before the law is the basis of our democracy, and now Mr. Wolf is attempting to restrict that central belief of American freedom.

As a member of our community, I respect we are all equal and we should stand with each other for liberty.   Mr. Wolf is clearly intent on imposing his personal views against the will of the people.
