McLean Committee Considers Providing More Information to Residents

Community Center panel mulls adding board meeting dates to calendar.

A McLean Community Center committee is deciding whether to make it easier for residents to find about what MCC board committees are doing and when.

The Communications Committee of the McLean board, headed by Craig Richardson, is overseeing an overhaul of the community center's website. Currently the calendar on the website includes just performances at the community center but none of the board and committee meetings.

“A lot of the hard work is done at the committee level,” MCC Board Chair Kevin Dent said Monday evening. He was explaining how the board operates to candidates running for board seats in May.

The Communications Committee has been working for several months to give taxpayers more information about what the center does.

Dates of full board meetings are published on the front of the website near the bottom of the page.

To find the committee meetings, taxpayers need to go to the bottom of the webpage and know to click on "Upcoming Governing Board Meetings." The board just started publishing the committee meeting dates and times last year.

George Sachs, the center executive director, said the staff would take the suggestion under consideration as they looked to remodel the website. First the committee and then the board would have to agree to making it easier for taxpayers to follow the work of this elected board.
