Cancelled: 30-Minute Overnight Beltway Closings, Lots of Paving Will Continue

Think of the Beltway as an obstacle course after midnight.

Weekly list of traffic tangles and challenges in and around Tysons Corner caused by construction of the HOT Lanes and Metro. Fasten your seat belts, it's a bumpy ride especially on the Beltway!

CANCELLED. The folks building Metro have cancelled the full road closures of I-495 (the Beltway). Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and south at I-495 - Two lanes closed Monday - Friday nights for overhang and bridge lighting work.

I-495 north from Lee Hwy. (Route 29) overpass to Lewinsville Rd. overpass - Three lanes closed Tuesday-Saturday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.

Three right lanes of southbound I-495 will be closed from Old Dominion Drive to Route 123 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Thursday, Oct. 13, and from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. One lane of thru traffic will be allowed through this portion of the interchange.
 
In addition, the entrance ramp from southbound Route 123 to southbound I-495 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on those nights.
 
To access southbound I-495, traffic will be directed to continue on southbound Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), turn right on International Drive, right on Galleria Drive right on Tysons Boulevard, then take a slight left and immediate right on to the ramp to southbound I-495.
 
Dulles Corridor Rail crews are still building the subway tracks over I-495 Wednesday through Friday nights next week.

NIGHTIME BRIDGE DEMOLITION CONTINUES at I-66 and I-495. I-66 east at I-495 - Road closed Monday - Saturday nights for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north to exit 49B, I-66 east.

Preparations for Ramp Restoration at Leesburg Pike (Route 7)/Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) Intersection to Begin

The ramp from westbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to southbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) has been closed and detoured for more than a year. Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews plan to reopen this ramp to traffic before Thanksgiving. As a result, road crews will begin preparations for restoring this ramp next week.
 
The right lane of westbound Route 7 will be closed from 500 feet east of Route 123 to 500 feet east of Westpark Drive during the daytime hours over the next two weeks.
 
Paving along Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) near I-66/West Falls Church
 
Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews are scheduled to perform pavement restoration along both directions of the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) near the I-66 flyover during the overnight hours Tuesday through Thursday of next week.
 
The following lanes will be closed during these operations:
Left thru lane of westbound Connector Road - closed 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a 1,000-foot stretch east of the Idylwood Road overpass
Right thru lane of eastbound Connector Road - closed 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Idylwood Road to the bus ramp exit to the West Falls Church transit center
 
Noise warning:Every effort will be made to minimize the noise associated with this work. However, paving is an extremely dangerous activity and will require the full use of backup alarms to ensure workers' safety.
 
Paving scheduled along Both Directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) at Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road, Tyco Road Intersections
 
Construction crews will be abandoning an old water line and restoring pavement on both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) between Tyco Road and Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road. The majority of these operations are scheduled for the overnight hours on Tuesday through Thursday nights.
 
Thru traffic on Leesburg Pike (Route 7), Tyco Road and Spring Hill Road will be maintained while work is completed. However, the turn lanes from both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) on to Westpark Drive and Gosnell Road will be closed for paving. Traffic will be detoured to access Westpark and Gosnell by U-turning at the next intersection and turning right on to those streets.

Full Closures of Eastbound Tysons Boulevard Friday and Saturday Nights, Oct. 14-15
 
The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed between Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Galleria Drive Friday and Saturday nights next week for overhead bridge, pier and station work near the future Tysons Central 123 station.
 
This will also require the closures of the turn lanes on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard from northbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), and northbound and southbound Galleria Drive. Generally, these lane closures will begin to be implemented at 9:30 p.m. each night, and will be lifted between 5 and 9 a.m. each following morning.
 
Detours around this closure will be in place. Please use extreme caution, pay attention to signage, and obey police direction if traveling around this intersection.
