UPDATE: Thousands of Fairfax Customers Remain Without Power for Fifth Day

Dominion Power says somewhere between 9,000 to 13,000 customers in Fairfax County remain powerless five days after a power storm hit the area Friday night.

The Dominion Power  website displayed the 9,000 - 13,000 range of customers still without power.

The company had issued no updated press release as of 5:30pm with updated restoration times. The website carries no restoration time. Crews worked through the day.

Dranesville Supervisor John Foust is still without power along with about 80 neighbors in the vicinity of Swinks Mill Road. Foust, who worked today, says he has a cool basement, hot water and an air-conditioned office.

ORIGINAL STORY 5:59am Dominion Power restored power to an estimated 6,000 McLean customers Tuesday leaving approximately 2,200 without power for a fifth day, according to the Dominion Power website.

As of 8 pm. Tuesday, a little over 25,000 Dominion Power customers in Fairfax County were still without power that was lost when a violent storm moved through the Washington area Friday night, packing record-setting winds. The company serves nearly 400,000 Fairfax residents.

"I think they made much better progress today than they did over the past several days," said Dranesville Supervisor John Foust. "They definitely had more resources working today in my district and it made a difference," said Foust.

Foust said Monday that 100 Dominion Power crews would work in his district Tuesday.

"Dominion Virginia Power is a day ahead of its original targets in restoring service for customers affected by last weekend's severe thunderstorms," the company said in a Tuesday afternoon press release.

Service for virtually all customers in Northern Virginia should be restored by Friday night, the power company said. In a few instances, work may continue into Saturday where there was extreme damage, the company said.

Workers "will continue to work straight through the July 4th holiday and will not stop until we get the lights back on for everyone," said Rodney Blevins, vice president-Electric Distribution Operations.

In McLean Tuesday evening:

• Nearly 250 customers living along Towlston Road are still without power.
• Dominion made progress restoring power to nearly 1,000 customers living near Spring Hill Road. Only about 60 remain in the dark.
•  60 remained without power in the Westpark area of Tysons Corner which earlier had over 1,000 customers with no power
• Nearly 300 customers remain powerless in communities south of Kirby Road between Great Falls Road and Westmoreland Street. The other large areas along Kirby Road has been restored.

Foust and about 100 customers living in the vicinity of  Swinks Mill Road are among those facing a fifth day with no power.
