Subway Pedestrian Bridges Break Ground Today

Construction of Route 7 overpasses begins Monday with pile driving.

Construction begins today on the pedestrian walkway that will bring riders from Route 7 to the Silver Line station platform.

The Dulles Rail Project will build two "pedestrian pavilions," one on either side of Route 7, to get passengers to the subway. The first pavilion gets under way along the westbound lanes at the old Merchant's Tire location between SAIC and The Big Screen Store.

Pile driving will be starting at the Tysons Central 7 Station north pavilion near Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road (which means nearby residents will probably hear some noise during construction hours). Crews will drive steel piles into the soil to build foundations for pavilions. The pile driving will occur from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and the occasional Saturday.

The work here will continue for about one week before moving to the eastbound lanes, where an identical pavilion will be built.

A similar pavilion is under construction along Dolley Madison Boulevard at the Tysons East station and at the Wiehle Avenue station along the Dulles Access Road.
