Overnight: Full Closures of Beltway, Route 7 Disruptions

Weekly compilation of traffic detours and headaches  in McLean and Tysons Corner caused by the construction of the Silver Line and the HOT Lanes through Tysons Corner. Pack the patience.

Overnight Lane and Ramp Closures on the I-495 Capital Beltway Continue

I-495 north at Exit 46 Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) - Three left lanes closed Monday night for overhead sign installation. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.

I-495 north at Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Road closed Friday and Saturday night for box girder installation. Traffic will be directed to Exit 47B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east, continue straight over median with direction of police across Leesburg Pike and onto exit ramp to I-495 north.

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and west at I-495 - Single lane closed Friday and Saturday nights for box girder installation.

Bridge Construction along Median of Route 7 Continues, Two Major Intersections to Be Closed Overnights This Week
 
Construction of the aerial guideway in the median of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) in Tysons Corner will continue overnights Monday Jan. 30 through Friday, Feb. 3, resulting in the closures of the middle of both the Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive and Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersections.
 
Thru traffic along both directions of Route 7 will not be affected, but thru traffic on Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive and Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road will not be permitted. Detour information is as follows:
 
Tyco Road/Westwood Center Drive Closures

Monday Jan. 29 - Thursday, Feb. 2, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; Friday, Feb. 3, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Southbound Tyco Road thru traffic and drivers wishing to turn left on to eastbound Route 7 will be directed to turn right on westbound Route 7, U-turn at Jarrett Valley Drive to access both eastbound Route 7 and Westwood Center Drive. As a courtesy to the neighborhood, please do not use Jarrett Valley Drive or private property as a turnaround;
Northbound Westwood Center Drive thru traffic and drivers wishing to turn left on to westbound Route 7 will be directed to turn right on eastbound Route 7, U-turn at Spring Hill Road to access both westbound Route 7 and Tyco Road.

Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road Closures

Wednesday, Feb. 1 - Friday, Feb. 3, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Southbound Westpark Drive thru traffic and drivers wishing to turn left on to eastbound Route 7 will be directed to turn right on westbound Route 7, U-turn at Spring Hill Road to access both eastbound Route 7 and Gosnell Road;
Northbound Gosnell Road thru traffic and drivers wishing to turn left on to westbound Route 7 will be directed to turn right on eastbound Route 7, left on International Drive, left on Route 123, then exit to Route 7, to access both westbound Route 7 and Westpark Drive.
 
Two Ramps at I-495/Route 123 Interchange to Close Overnights
 
Overhead bridge construction at the I-495/Route 123 interchange will force the closures of two ramps overnights from Sunday, Jan. 29 through Friday, Feb. 3.
 
Ramp from Northbound I-495 to Southbound Route 123 - 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
To access southbound Route 123, drivers will be detoured by exiting on to northbound I-495 instead, turning right on Old Meadow Road, left on Colshire Meadow Drive, left on Colshire Drive, then left on to southbound Route 123.
 
Ramp from Southbound Route 123 to Northbound I-495 - 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
To access northbound I-495, drivers will be detoured by continuing on southbound Route 123, turning right on International Drive, right on Galleria Drive, right on Tysons Boulevard, then left on to northbound Route 123, to the second right exit on to northbound I-495.
 
In addition, the right lane of southbound Route 123 also will be closed from Capital One Drive to the east side of I-495 again tonight from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. to support the overhead bridge and station construction.
 
Eastbound Tysons Boulevard to Close Monday through Friday Nights
 
The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed between Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Galleria Drive Monday through Friday nights, Jan. 30-Feb. 3, for overhead bridge, pier and station work near the future Tysons Central 123 station.
 
This also will require the closures of the turn lanes on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard from northbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), and northbound and southbound Galleria Drive. Generally, these lane closures will begin to be implemented at 9:30 p.m. each night, and will be lifted between 5 a.m. each following morning.
 
Detours around this closure will be in place. Please use extreme caution, pay attention to signage, and obey police direction if traveling around this intersection.

I-495 south to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south - Ramp closed Sunday - Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west, make a right onto International Dr. north and follow signs to Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123).
Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east at Trap Rd. - Single lane closed Thursday and Friday night for barrier movement.
Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east from Idylwood Rd. to I-66 - Left lane closed Sunday night for barrier movement.
