Eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) and Eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to close overnight Monday night; as follows:

Eastbound Dulles Access Road Closure and Detour
7 p.m. – The left lane of the westbound DIAAH will close near Route 7.
7:30 p.m. – The right lane of the eastbound DIAAH also will close near Route 7.
8 p.m. – All eastbound DIAAH traffic will be diverted on to the single westbound lane, which will remain open to accommodate diverted Toll Road traffic (see listing below). At this time, westbound DIAAH will be two-way traffic.
Closures will be picked up in reverse order, to be completed at 5 a.m. the following mornings to avoid the morning rush hour.

Eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) Closure and Detour

The Dulles Access detour (see details above) will be combined with a closing and detour of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road, also near Route 7:
8 p.m. – The three left lanes of the eastbound Toll Road will close near Route 7.
10 p.m. – Eastbound toll road traffic will be switched on to the eastbound DIAAH.
Police will be onsite. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, and pay attention to signage. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Bridge construction over Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road at Leesburg Pike (Route 7); multiple overnight closures and detours required

Cranes are constructing bridge segments over the Westpark Drive/Gosnell Road intersection with Leesburg Pike (Route 7).

Overnight thru traffic along both directions of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) still will be open, but left turns on to Westpark or Gosnell will not be allowed. For safety reasons, thru traffic on Westpark/Gosnell will be prohibited, and will be detoured by using Route 7 as follows:
Southbound Westpark Drive thru traffic and driver wanting to turn left on to eastbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to westbound Leesburg Pike, then U-turn at either Spring Hill Road or Tyco Road, and continue on eastbound Leesburg Pike towards Gosnell Road.

Northbound Gosnell Road thru traffic and drivers wanting to turn left on to westbound Leesburg Pike will need to turn right on to eastbound Leesburg Pike, pass under Route 123, turn left on International Drive, left on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), then take the exit ramp to Route 7 to turn right on Westpark Drive.
Weather permitting, these closures will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Fridays for approximately the next six weeks.

Lane shifts of Eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) at flyover to I-66 East

Automobile and bus drivers who use the eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) toward I-66 east and the bus loop into West Falls Church Station should be aware of a lane shift that will split the two lanes of eastbound thru traffic from the bus lane.

The two eastbound lanes will be shifted slightly to the left, creating a barrier between thru traffic and the bus lane. Both the thru traffic and buses will need to exit on to their respective lanes when the split is in place.

This split is expected to be implemented during the overnight hours of Monday, Aug. 8 and Tuesday, Aug. 9, and every attempt will be made to minimize nighttime noise, though nearby neighborhoods may experience some increased noise during paving and barrier placement.

This lane shift will allow crews to construct the tunnel that will carry future Metro trains from the median of the Connector Road, under the roadway, and into the expanded West Falls Church Yard. It is expected to be in place through the end of 2011.

Safety alert: Surveyors working in Airport Access Highway shoulder

On Thursday and Friday next week, project surveyors will be working along the shoulder of the eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway, from Haycock Road (on I-66) to Wiehle Avenue.

DIAAH travelers should watch for survey signage and be alert if driving through this area. The survey crews will be on site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The shoulder will have signage posted but will not be closed.

Full closures of Eastbound Tysons Boulevard planned for overnights next week

Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews plan to close the eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard from Galleria Drive to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) overnight Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12, for pier and station work. In addition, the turn lanes from Galleria Drive and Route 123 on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard will be closed.

These closures will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Westbound Tysons Boulevard traffic will remain open.

Thru traffic on eastbound Tysons Boulevard toward Route 123 will be detoured as follows:
Left on Galleria Drive/Westpark Drive
Left on Westbranch Drive
Right on Tysons Boulevard
Left on International Drive to access Route 123
An alternate route for hotels and businesses along Tysons Boulevard would be to turn left on to westbound Tysons Boulevard, then left on International Drive. Note: Southbound Galleria Drive only allows a right-turn on to International Drive and thus does not access Route 123.

Flagging operation at Magarity/Olney intersection continues

Flaggers will be directing thru traffic at the Magarity Road/Olney Road intersection in Falls Church as crews continue restoration of the curb line and gutter, and installation of a new storm drainage pipe.

This work will reduce thru traffic to one lane on each road from Monday, Aug. 8 to Thursday, Aug. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 12.

Private entrances and driveways will be accessible at all times. Signs will be installed warning drivers that the flaggers and one-lane traffic are ahead. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through this intersection.
