McLean 'WOW' House: Circa 1850 Home Served as Civil War Headquarters

Price of home, near Hickory Hill, sees price drop, from $3,250,000 to $2,995,000.

A very special home on the market in McLean, "Langley Ordinary," located at 1101 Chain Bridge Road, is made for history buffs who enjoy modern-day comforts. (An "ordinary" was a public meeting house.)

The five-bedroom, 6.5-bath home, built circa 1850, once served as headquarters for Union Gen. George McCall and as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War, according to a story published last year by The Washington Post. It was also the home of George F.M. Walters, the architect of Hickory Hill, the article notes.

The historic 6,000-square foot home fell into disrepair over the years and was rescued several years ago by Federal Home Co. founder, builder Doug DeLuca and and president Matt Broncezek. DeLuca bought the house and land (and an additional adjoining acre) from the Potomac School for $1.4 million. The house has retained its historic charm and now has all the comforts of home, and then some.

Much of the home's history is preserved and historic touches abound including in the home's wraparound (expanded) porch, original floorboards and library with antique barn wood. The up-to-date extras include Viking appliances, a new three-car garage, steam shower, skylights and more.
