McLean Parents: Does Your Child Need Extra Lunch Money? There's an App for That

Want to check days off, contact a Fairfax County Public Schools board member, or add money to your child's lunch account? Now, there's an app for that.

Fairfax County parents can now take care of important school business for their children while standing in line for their morning latte.

This week, Fairfax County Public Schools introduced a new mobile app, available for free in both the iTunes Store and Google Play.

Parents can customize the app to follow their child's specific school.

From the app's menu parents can, at a glance, catch up on the school's top news, see the calendar for important events or days off, view the week's lunch menu, and even add money to their child's school lunch account.

Parents can even quickly look up contact information for school board members, or find a particular school's social media pages and accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The app will be updated throughout the year. The app is meant to be a "convenient tool for on-the-go information" and "is not intended as a replacement" for the Fairfax County Public Schools website, according to a news release.

The app is maintained by the company ParentLink.
