Go Team! McLean High Cheerleaders to Compete in World Championship in Orlando

The group, which includes two sisters, are heading to Orlando to compete in the The Cheerleading and Dance World Championship aka "Worlds."

Four McLean High School students will compete this month in a world championship cheerleading and dance competition in Orlando.

The United States All Star Federation (USASF) is host to The Cheerleading and Dance World Championship annually. More than 120 USASF/IASF member event producers across the United States and in more than 40 countries around the world qualify top teams at their premier national championships to compete at "The Worlds."

The event is set for April 25-28 at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

This international event brings together more than 9,000 cheer and 3,500 dance athletes to vie for world champion titles in senior and international club divisions and categories.

  • Jack Saunders, 16. A Junior at McLean High School, Jack is on the Varsity Cheering and Soccer team. He has been cheering for one year. He is on Infinity's Kryptonite which is an International Open Coed 5 team. They qualified for "Worlds" by receiving an "at large bid" at “Spirit of Hope" in Charlotte, N.C. Their routine includes lots of high to highs and switch ups.  It is a long (and challenging) “elite” sequence. Their biggest challenge? Hitting a clean, flawless routine.
  • Farren Shannon, 15. A Freshmen, Farren is on the Varsity Cheering, Gymnastic and Junior Varsity Track Team. She has been cheering competitively for six years. She cheers at Cheer Tyme in Chantilly and is on Medium Senior Coed 5 team, made up of 30 athletes (six boys and 24 girls) ranging in age 13-18. They won their bid to go to "Worlds" at Battle of the Capitol, at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor. Farren will compete a "double full" in the routine.  
  • Lindsay Kircher, 17, is a Junior at McLean High School. She is on the Varsity Dance Team and will be competing on two teams at the Dance Worlds. She is at Infinity in Fairfax and is on the Gold Senior Jazz and Black Velocity Senior Co-Ed Hip Hop team.
  • Kristen Kircher, 15,  is a freshmen. She is a member of the Varsity Cheering and JV Track team She cheers and dances at Infinity and is on Black Velocity Senior Co-Ed Hip Hop with her sister. The Kirchers won their bid at the Christmas Classic Cheer and Dance Extreme in Ocean City in December. Lindsay and Kristen competed last year at Dance Worlds.
Cheering teams compete for 2:30 minutes. They will tumble, jump, stunt (putting other athletes in their air) and dance during that time.
